Available for StoryMap Stories only

1. The story must be public. The archiver reads it the way any reader's browser does. Private stories need a token (Advanced).
2. Web maps and apps stay live. They load from ArcGIS each time and won't work offline; a snapshot linking to the live item stands in when there's no connection. Express maps are fully archived.
3. Uploaded media is stored in the file. Images, fonts, videos, audio and attachments come along. YouTube, Vimeo and other embedded pages stay live.
4. You get one HTML file. Open it in any browser, share it, or host it anywhere.
5. If the colors look wrong, pick the story's theme under Advanced Theme Options. The log shows what was converted.

Getting an access token

For ArcGIS Online. A token lets StoryMap Archiver read a story that isn't shared publicly.

Quick token (expires in an hour or so)

1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online in this browser.
2. Open arcgis.com/sharing/rest/generateToken. It's a plain form.
3. Enter your username and password. Set Client to Request IP, Expiration to the number of minutes you need (60 is typical), and Format to JSON.
4. Click Generate Token and copy the long token value from the response.
5. Paste it into the Access token field and convert before it expires.

Choose "Request IP", not "Referer": StoryMap Archiver runs from a local file and sends no referer, so a referer-bound token is rejected. Convert from the same network you generated the token on.

Reusable key (lasts up to a year)

1. In ArcGIS Online go to Content → New item → Developer credentials → API key credentials.
2. Under item privileges, grant access to the story item (and its theme item if the story uses a custom theme).
3. Set an expiration and generate the key.
4. Paste the key into the Access token field. It works anywhere a token does.

Keep it private

StoryMap Archiver uses the token only while converting. With the default "embed" options nothing token-related is written into the page. If you leave videos, audio or attachments linked, their URLs will carry your token and the log will warn you — keep that file private until the token expires.
